amazing book. great connection to nolan's movies

I won't say a lot but this novel is ten tims better than the animatd film. Not only does it connect and bridge Batman Begins and The Dark Knight properly but it is also its own story much like both awesome films directed by Christopher Nolan.

Most of the main story does take a little time to get to the point but for good reason. The events of Batman Beginsis referenced well though I wish Joker and Harvey Dent would have been mentioned too. Scarecrow, Killer Croc, and Deadshothave great scenes and development. Even The Man in Black has his moments during the first 6 chapters. Over all it is a recommended read for fans of Batman and Nolan's take on Batman.

Great review book for microscopic and gross anatomy

This PreTest includes many clinical questions and bridges cell biology, physiology, human anatomy, embryology, and an introduction to pathology. It was very useful during the anatomy courses and helped me to a 244 on USMLE I. I know, there isn't much pure histology on the boards, but this book helped me quickly review the microscopic and gross anatomical structure of the body and prepare for USMLE I. First Aid gave me a list of areas to emphasize, but it has errors and is too lightweight for those students who want to excel and do a first rate residency.

One night, Yasmeen sees that the moon is full, and realizes that the observance is half over. Other events include a family barbecue and a celebration of the "Night of the Moon" at the community center, where stalls sell clothes, jewelry, toys, snacks, and gifts. Then Ramadan is over, and the next day is Eid. Yasmeen awakes to her brother's greeting of "Eid mubarak," and the children receive gifts of money. Paschkis's beautiful paintings incorporate Islamic tile art, adding to an authentic sense of the culture. Mom explains how in the Islamic calendar the months follow the lunar cycle, and an excited Yasmeen realizes it’s time for Ramadan. In school, she shares with her classmates details of the holiday, such as the fast. At home, she shares meals with family. The holiday moves week by week, until finally the sky is moonless. “The Night of the Moon” means Ramadan is over, and the next day is the holiday of Eid. Khan’s author’s note explains the origins of Ramadan and the reasons for fasting. The book focuses on the celebratory aspects of the holiday rather than the religious underpinnings, more of which could have been included in the text. But the upbeat tone of the writing is matched by Paschkis’ lively, jewel-like art that uses Islamic decorative stylings and has the look of enameled design work. Great book for all!

I purchased this book to read to my 1st grade students during our Holidays Around the World segment. We had several Muslim children in our grade, so we wanted to make sure to include their culture in our studies since the other students were constantly asking questions. This book is beautifully written, and illustrated. Each page is covered with rich, inviting color. The story was easy for every student to understand, and they really enjoyed learning about how other people in the world live and celebrate. I would recommend this book for any curious child, regardless of race or religion.

Love this book!

I have been reading this book to my son since he was 2. He always liked it but now that he is 5 and understands things in more depth, he absolutely loves this. It is a beautiful tale of sighting the Ramadan moon, the holy month of Ramadan and the festival of Eid. I read this to my almost 2 year old daughter, and she identified herself with the main character in the book, even though she doesn't fully grasp the idea of Ramadan yet. I am so happy to have books like this to share with my kids. Hena Khan is one of my favorite authors - she does a great job lightly presenting these topics to young readers.

Wide Variety of Thought

WHO WE ARE provides an interesting overview of many of the popular thoughts on Human Nature. There is a wide range of varying views from a diverse group of people. Much of the book is fairly deep and difficult to comprehend, but such is the case with philosophical thinkers many times. Also, if you are looking for the author to give his definitive opinion, you will have to look elsewhere, as Pojman simply paints a picture of the varying views without tipping his hat as to his own personal beliefs. I believe there could have been a more thorough exploration of the biblical views, too. Overall, it is an informative book from which to learn and from which to grab ahold of for good critical thinking.

This book has a lot of great insight from various perspectives. It's the type of book you are forced to read for school, but find yourself discussing in your personal life or while reading give a few "no they didn't" to.

Arouses and challenges itself and your thoughts. Easiest school book I ever read because I wanted to read the complete book just so I could express my thoughts in class. The book made class discussin very juicey.

This book is great - but my students found that he wrote a bit too generally about the material. They'd like to have had more primary texts. Sometimes I wondered if it wasn't too advanced. It's definitely educational, not entertainment.

A must read for Jimi Hendrix fans.

Steve Roby, a well known Hendrix archivist as collected information on audio, film and video recordings of Hendrix, either in circulation or 'lost'. There is a wealth of info that Hendrix collectors, such as myself, will be able to use for years. Roby also hopes that 'lost' recordings will surface from someone reading his new book.

Excellent balance of facts and history

Admittedly, this book will appeal to the Hendrix-ophile more than the casual reader. However, Roby weaves a good thread of history and minutiae that will capture the interest of the casual Hendrix listener as well. Since the book was published, a lot of the "lost" material has been officially released. However, there is a wealth of video and audio that even the most ardent collectors have not seen or heard. (Experience Hendrix possesses some but not all of this un-bootlegged material and will probably release it in dribs and drabs for the next decade or so, consider this: a large armored truck was used in the 70's to transport all of the hundreds of reels of Hendrix material) Roby does neglect covering the Douglas/Hendrix period with the same level of archivists detail. What about all the sessions set up with Tony Williams, Mother Hen/Dave Holland, the apartment jam w/Miles Davis? There is still much entombed in vaults and will be for decades to come. Roby's book scratches the surface but I think as time passes more and more evidence will confirm the importance of Hendrix to pop music and music in general.

an essential Jimi read

Ever wonder who jammed with who? This book helps you to find out. This book both a comprehensive list of all recordings of Jimi and his band, as well as an intimate look at the lifestyle of one of America's greatest musicians. I skipped over a lot of the lists and dove into the narratives that told stories of Jimi jamming with Janis Joplin, Eric Clapton (Jimi is supposedly the only guitarist to ever play Clapton off-stage), The Who and many other greats. What I enjoyed most about the book was the details about Jimi learning to play the guitar and his first gigs. Jimi is a musician that stayed true to his roots and his own unique style.
I only gave this book 3 stars because, unless you know absolutely nothing about Jimi Hendrix or some of the other musicians in the book, much of what you read you are likely to already know. Redding included many well known anecdotes as filler for his archival list, which is admirably constructed and researched. The only problem is, is that much of what is on the list is unavailable to the public.
Still, if you're a Jimi fan, you have to read it. After all, it's a book about Jimi.
