About the Author
Lincoln Peirce began creating comics in the 6th grade (just like Big Nate!). He went on to teach art at a New York City High School. Lincoln created the cartoon-strip character Big Nate in 1991, naming the character after a nickname he gave his older brother as a kid. He lives in Portland, Maine in the US and as well as creating Big Nate comic strips and books, he hosts a local radio show.

Rip off!!!

This book is the SAME book at "Big Nate, in a Class by Himself" but it has a different title. We already have that book and my son had read it. We assumed this was a different book since the title is different, but it is NOT, it is the EXACT same book, with a different title. How was anyone to know that???? Now we have purchased the SAME book we have already read!! so, if you have read "Big Nate, a Class by Himself" DO NOT waste your money ON THIS one.

I can't believe the author would put out two books that are exactly the same but just have a different title! The Boy With the Biggest Head is the exact same book as Big Nate In a Class by Himself. This almost seems fraudulant. Amazon should stop selling this book!

Waste of money!!!!

This was such a waste of money!!! My son loves these books and when he started to read the book he said, "Mom this is the same book as the first one, but it has a different title." I took both books side by side and looked through the pages and compared them. Sure enough they were exactly the same book. My son and I were both disappointed.

If you thought you lost the love of your life, only to find him alive--how would you react?
Sabine finds Remy alive, but something is different. Something has changed. He's not exactly her Remy, is he? So many factors play against the power couple, struggling to hold onto their love and happiness. You won't believe the awesome mind job in this story. It's not predictable. Forget everything you know about vampires and walk the journey with Sabine and Remy. Giving up isn't an option as these two fight for their love and try desperately to overcome the ultimate evil threatening to destroy them. This is a great conclusion to the WCVS. Ms. Summers delivers and I highly recommend!!!

Up front let me say I'm no good at putting into words WHY I liked a book so apologies for anybody who feels I did not give good enough reasons as to why they should buy and read this one.
Awakening was a beautiful way to wrap up Sabine and Remy's story.
If you invested your time and read the first two books then you owe it to yourself to see how it all ends.
You won't be disappointed.

Best book of the series

Book 3 in The Willow Creek Vampires Series was by far my favorite book of the series.
After a shocking end to Bastian's power, Sabine flees Willow Creek Manor to go to her family home, once there she sees a "For Sale" sign in the yard and realizes that her family has left her and not ever told her they were leaving. While she is there she is summoned back to the manor, and finds that the king of vampires is now her Remy. But he is acting strangely towards her and all of the former vampires that are still in the manor with them.
With help from Mary a witch, a ghost and her one time enemy can they all band together to save Remy from the dark force that seems to have a hold on him?
You have to read to find that out!
While I loved these books, and I am sad to see their story come to an end, I cannot help but hold out hope that Remy will make a reappearance again!

Uphill Going In Places

The five stories in here take place in the late 1950s/early to mid 1960s.

The style in each is possibly best described as "slow burn, slow build". The voice used is present tense linking of past tense remembrance for the most part. Expect to be zooming around in time like Dr Who.

These stories are not your action/adventure fare of today, though there are tense moments. They can best be thought of as espionage whodunnits. A big part of the fun is in trying to anticipate what is going on and to modify your own understanding of events in light of each new piece of testimony from the past.

For the Smiley Spotter crowd, only three stories have Smiley appearing in any capacity of note, though he does put his face around the door in another, briefly.

The most readable for me is "Looking Glass War" and the least accessible is "Small Town". The most noticeable thing about these tales is that after you've assessed the whole thing not a lot has actually happened. Or perhaps more accurately, much has happened to little effect in a very short time.

"Cold" is probably the best constructed story overall.

"Call" is excellent for amateur sleuths and spymasters to try their hand at beating Smiley to the answer.

"Murder" is also excellent for amateur sleuths and spymasters to get stuck in and beat Smiley to the awful truth.

"Looking-Glass" is a fairy predictable tale. Given the story is mostly a character study (in my opinion) I found the abrupt nature of the ending a bit unbelievable. When I say character study, one of thoise characters is the "national character" as embodied in our various clandestine services.

"Small Town" was very hard going for me. The POV character has mercurial mood swings that I found unpredictable and thus of little help in showing the character to me. In retrospect I suspect that this story is trying to work at a deeper level, perhaps as a (then) topical satire. Sadly, without annotations, this is lost on me.

The reader must always keep in mind the time the stories are written in and about. This was a time in which the British secret service had been shown to be riddled with communist deep cover moles and therefore one in which British standing with the very people they were so anxious to look good for - the Americans - was completely compromised.

Le Carre is writing about a community at war with itself and riddled with older people using (possibly outmoded) WWII methods and thinking and younger types often very naive to the realities of espionage.

The binding on this volume is perfect for the job. It has a cloth-backed binding that swells and curves to accommodate the opening over the range of pages. This book is bloody thick old boy, and a tight binding will make reading it a hellish experience. This binding flexes out as you approach the middle so pages stay open.

Nothing worse than a book that closes as you try to read it.

A star comes of only for the difficulty presented to me by "Small Town" - which was the only story in the book I had already read by the way. A second reading was no easier to get through.

Excellent. Carre at his best

Some are a bit dated, but I lived in this era so I liked them (again). I read many when they came out but my copies were long gone. What with the BS about Russia still continuing I thought I would look back to an era where fewer of us had blinders on about that country and be reminded. After all, history repeats when you forget it, and this may be a series of novels, but they aren't far from the truth.

Long Live LeCarre!

This is an excellent collection of John LeCarre's earlier works. No other espionage author has ever been able to capture the claustrophobic moodiness of the cold war spy. The Spy Who Came in From the Cold is a seminal work, and arguably one of the best (if not THE best) novels of it's type ever. The characters are tightly developed, with just the right mix of world-weariness and naivete. The remainder of the collection mostly highlight the early career of George Smiley, the most "un"-James Bond British spy ever. Everyone is familiar with Smiley, or at least everyone who favors this type of story. Absolutely the best it gets!

I vaguely remember this edition in the early 80's. I was glad to see it was still available in great, used shape from the Amazon market. No spoilers here on the stories. Get it and read it, it is well worth your time!

Boring, Repetitive, Non-productive

I read this book for an undergrad philosophy course, and found it pretty worthless. The individual submissions tend towards repetition, with an over-emphasis on defining terrorism, and not much justification for the strategies they propose to combat it. Generally, however, the essays just don't cover much ground, and the discussion helps no one but professional philosophers. Any one with a practical interest in combating terrorism, be they military, political, or in any other field, would find the book unhelpful.
The Chomsky and Sterba submissions are interesting, but others, such as Philips', are just plain weird. Philips' solution to long-term terrorism is to give in to the demands of fundamentalists, and take our society backwards to meet theirs. It would be a scary thought if he could actually argue for it well. Teachers, please don't assign this in class, because in addition to the above mentioned problems, its also very boring.

However in most cases, the investigation is quickly halted and satisfied in putting the burden on the Western world. In like manner, and in a fairly passive approach, the book downplays the significance of the religious roots that has been at the core of so many wars over the past 1400 years.
It is difficult to find common justice to deal with the terrorism problem on a global scale when the motivating force that initiates the problem is to the contrary of that justice.
