Excellent book for steel design

The book introduces engineers to the design of steel structures using the International Code Council's 2012
International Buildings Code and the theoretical background of steel design and covers the detailed design of members and their connections.
The design problems and solutions using both ASD and LRFD methods are a great way to learn and understand the code and see the difference between the two methods.
I really liked the excellent review of ASCE7, 2010 edition. This gives a detailed explanation of the new loading provisions.

Excellent!

This story captivated me from the very first page. The writing flowed and I never had to stop and question why something was happening. Ali's writing had me reading each line as if I was watching a scene in a movie. The serial killer story was engaging and I loved how it tied to Tally. All of the "authority figures" were so great that it made me wish I could drive to the south and meet them all in person...if they were real people of course (lol). But my favorite part was the interaction between the Tally and "visions". I got goose bumps and shed a few tears. At one point the story reminded me of watching The Ghostwhisper...I loved that show! Oh and the romance between Tally and Blair was very sweet! I usually like a longer build up to intimacy but the "soul mate" angle excuses that. Do yourself a favor and read this book!

The author quickly establishes the quirky main character and then adds lots of drama and heart stopping action, add in a love story and you have a good book. The story leaves you guessing all the way to the end. I am hoping the author will continue the story.

As always with an Ali Spooner book, I was hooked in from the first page and held spellbound until the last. This book is well written and definitely a one sitting read. I love Tally and Blair and I'm really hoping this is the first in a series. If you enjoy a good mystical murder/romance, look no further, this is excellent.

A must-read from one of my favorite novelists.

Well, it had to happen. This very good and prolific novelist is also Smart with a capital S.

“And Then She Was Gone” begins to fill the niche created by the Jack Stratton mystery series. Throughout that very entertaining series about an unusually daring and besieged police detective the reader gets glimpses of his past life as a foster kid. There are hints about his foster brother Chandler; the girl who’s head-over-heels in love with him, Alice aka Replacement; the loving couple who adopted him; and the angelic but tough Aunt Haddie, whose house fills with adoring foster kids.

“And Then She Was Gone” begins like an episode from the Hardy Boys; in this case revived through Jack and Chandler. I had a little difficulty at first adapting their dialogue to the more mature Jack Stratton series. But then it dawned on me that the protagonists were two seventeen year olds.

Frankly, when I thought about that, I decided Greyson’s technical artistry is admirable. He is able to develop immature dialogue in retrospect. Think about it. Take any adult protagonist and try to figure out how he would sound as a teenager. Amazing talent!

Anyway, this who-done-it has it all: the false leads; the hero desperately trying to prove he’s doing the right thing; the good and bad cops; and even a mildly romantic scene with an out-of-reach society girl. It has the bad guy hurting the hero badly. And it has tension from beginning to end. It’s not ‘unputdownable.’ In fact, you have to put it down several times to slow down your racing heart.

For intense enjoyment you need to read this after you’ve read one or two books from the Jack Stratton series; preferably the whole series like I did. You could read it on its own, but you’d deprive yourself of the tremendous enjoyment of unearthing the mysteries you find in the series. And, like I said, Greyson better write at least one more novel in this niche he created.

A well-deserved Five Stars for Greyson and his “And Then She Was Gone.”

Okay, so I've never heard I'd Christopher Greyson before, but he's on my radar now. This was a clean mystery. Not entirely "language"-free, but it was definitely sexual-situation free. And the morals in the story are spot on. I could fault nothing in this story. Now, it remains to be seen if the rest of his books are like this. The main characters were teenagers, Army-bound with college in mind, assisted by the military. It wasn't written in a juvenile fashion like many books are with teens as the focus. This was good, well written, suspenseful, and funny. Great dialog. Not sure if this was labeled as Christian fiction but it could be close.
Jack is a kid who was abandoned, in foster care for years, and eventually, after years with an amazing black foster-care woman, was adopted by yet another amazing couple. But he has scars from the few years he had prior of being locked up, burned, and neglected by his druggie/hooker mother and others. But he always wanted to be a cop. This has given him protective instincts and seems to find himself in situations where he's chasing down muggers or chasing leads for suspects in cases...all without any permission from parents or police. It gets him in hot water.
In this case, he knows a kid from his background who is accused of a crime is probably innocent and sets out to prove it.
Good stuff. I highly recommend this book to anyone.

LOVED this story!

I didn't think I would appreciate it that much since it tells the story of a young Jack but it was so wonderful to read and learn about his younger years. Your story of a young Jack and Chandler has me sitting here with tears running down my face, filled with emotion. Thank you for letting us know about Jack's wonderful parents, Aunt Haddie, Chandler and let's never forget Michelle and we get a peek at Replacement (Alice).As usual, you don't disappoint and this story is filled with suspense, laughter, joy and is powerful! Your last sentence just blew me away! After I read it, the river just opened up and my tears flowed! OH, my did that take me by surprise!! I am overwhelmed with love, sadness and caring for all the characters .I am thrilled and happy for your gift, as a writer and your gift to us, your readers. Thank you for bringing them alive and writing another wonderful story.

Accurate and entertaining!

Amy Dees writes a fantastic young adult novel filled with adventure, intrigue, and accuracy. It shines light upon two aspects of slavery largely overlooked in modern writing: the vast difference between slavery in the colonial era versus slavery in the Antebellum South, as well as the experiences of the thousands of white, Catholic Irish slaves brought over during and immediately after the English Civil War. Historically accurate in the events surrounding the characters, Dees writes a story that is entertaining, engaging to young readers, and historically accurate. It is a great beginning to what should be a terrific and educational series regarding not just slavery in the colonial South, but life in the colonies in general.

Not really my style

Most reviews I've seen for this book have been extremely positive, so I feel as though I missed something. I wasn't even able to finish reading it. There was nothing about it that grabbed my interest and drew me in, and it seemed to drag on for page after page.

From what I did read, I found the author to be very careful about her historical accuracy, which is always a plus.

If you have any interest in this book, don't let my experience change your mind. Read it for yourself and decide!
